World-wide for many millennium FAD devices have and are deployed to enhance inshore and ocean fisheries. Most countries in the equatorial regions deploy very primitive fads consisting of lengths of bamboo poles tethered at one end and fanning out on the surface. They have provided food for century’s to thousands of villages. They are the most productive and sustainable form of harvesting the local oceans. FAD's have proven themselves in all countries to be the most successful form of providing food with no damage to any environment. FAD's simply aggregate, or hold, the ever moving population of pelagic species that would normally pass through any given area. Most species form part of the evolutionary oceanic food chain.
